The Sydenham Community Curling Club is looking to hire a Sports and Events Manager.  This role is 35 hours for the months of September to March and is reduced to 15 hours a week April through August.  There is the potential for more hours with more events such as wedding that will raise this demand.  Those interested in the role can email their resume and cover letter to This email address is being protected from spambots. Sport and Events Manager Job Responsibilities: 

• Implements all club/board approved policies and agreements 
• Answer the phones and maintain scheduled office hours 
• Maintain a record for key distribution (Excludes Lockers) 
• Maintain health inspection standards for the kitchen and ensure adherence to   contractual commitments 
• Maintain safe working environment that is compliant to the Ontario Health & Safety Act 
• Maintain Kitchen and supplies 
•  Lounge set up for meetings and special events 
•  Manages the maintenance of the facility and reports any issues to the Building Director 
•  Renew advertising contracts and with assistance of the Advertising Director, source new advertising opportunities 
•  Promote/Rent facility: Communicate with the Bar Manager and the Financial Office to ensure accurate billing. 
•  Add materials to the one drive and maintain accurate controls for specific board members and staff. 
•  Assist with Grants – Writing and follow up records (Excludes providing the financials) 
•  Analyze and provide solutions for problematic situations and occurrences (e.g. Conflict between members, athletes and guests) 
•  Provide oversight of the pro shop and maintain both curling and pickleball inventory during appropriate seasons.  Merchandise inventory and maximize profits. 
• BINGO and Lottery License 
• Renew Liquor License and apply for special occasion permits 
• Submit all receipts to Financial Manager 
•  Attend Board Meetings and present monthly reports on the execution of the assigned tasks. 
•  Other duties assigned by the Board of Directors 

• Maintain regular communication with staff members  
•  Manage and schedule the cleaner and ensure the facility is clean and well maintained 

• Promote/Rent facility – contracts, scheduling on online calendar, customer requests, entry to building and follow up with deposit return if applicable 
• Communicate with the Bar Manager and the Financial Manager to ensure accurate billing and scheduling information is shared 

• With assistance from the Membership Director, execute registration 
• Work with the finance office to update changes to the website and maintain online registration system 
•  Corresponding with SCCC membership 
• Create an annual calendar to be approved by the Board of Directors 
•  Update membership forms with current dues, ensure waivers are available at the bar and maintain a membership database 
•  Work with the Communications Director to ensure our social media presence is current and effective 

• Communicate with the Director responsible for the leagues and bonspiels to establish annual goals and support operations 
• Assist the main bonspiels – The Rusty Nail, The All Ontario Farmers Bonspiel and Crazy Legs 
• Organize club jitneys as scheduled on the calendar, including the Club Championships 
• Promote our Little Rocks Program and assist in the development of our Jr. Program 
• Promote our Learn to Curl program and ensure a smooth transition from LTC to league play 
• Promote the elementary program and assist with finding instructional volunteers  
• Organize instructional programs throughout the season for members and non-members 

• Organize a pickleball committee to execute leagues 
• Create Pickleball tournaments 
• Maintain equipment  
• Maintain inventory in the Pro Shop 

Our teams representing our SCCC at the Kent Cup - tied for first place with the team from Blenhiem.  This year's event was hosted by the Blenheim Club and we were well represented at the event!!

The Women's Bonspiel organized by Charlotte Hogan at the SCCC raised $4650.00 for the Chatham-Kent Women's Shelter. Accepting the donation is Kristine Holland (centre), with Stacey Dobbin our Club Manager (left) and event organizer Charlotte Hogan (right).

Just a reminder that we have two daytime leagues that members can play in.  The Monday League is from noon to 2:00pm and the Thursday League is from 9:30am to 11:30am both days are an 8 end format - just drop in and play - please arrive 20 minutes early to allow for setting up the teams!

This years Weasel Bonspiel was another great success. Organized by our Iceman Doug Teeter, this years event had two fun draws and the winning team was skipped by Randy Bechard with Bruce Campbell, Tina Mapletoff and Nancy Bechard!

Our Club was well represented at the Oil Chemical Bonspiel in Sarnia this past weekend. Jerry Meyskens and his team of Steve Hogan, Bill Verbeem and Jay Rutter came in second out of 40 teams! Yep that’s the same Meyskens that won the Farmers!!

The Epoxy Workshop at the Club was a huge success! Look at the amazing work! Please act surprised when you open these gifts next Christmas!!

And for the person that swept so hard that they broke their broom - we have new brooms available for sale at the Club! I don't think it was Doug Teeter!!

 

What a great Women’s Bonspiel. A fun event won by our own Nancy Bechard, Luanne Berkvens, Alison Vitek and Heather Gauthier. Second place was Betty Meyskens, Tina Mapletoff, Annette Dhaen and Karen Wilbur. and best effort to Sarah Fernandes, Lyndsay Vink, Tara Feddes and Heather Perkins. Thanks to Charlotte Hogan and all the volunteers who made the day a success. And of course our sponsors and prize donations. Thanks Intertec, Karen Wilbur and Enbridge and Realty House Wallaceburg. You may have noticed a pizza warmer on the counter in the kitchen - well we are testing out having pizza available on our league nights - Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
